City rules and fees
- El Paso residents (not businesses or contractors) can drop off trash, household hazardous waste, recyclables and bulky items at the five Citizen Collection Stations. A pass is required. (City of El Paso Environmental Services: Citizen Collection Stations)
- Bring a current water bill and a valid ID with a matching address. Limit four visits per month; single-axle trailers up to 8 feet only. Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. No construction debris. (City of El Paso Environmental Services: Citizen Collection Stations)
- The stations page does not mention appliances or Freon. Call 3-1-1 or (915) 212-0000 to confirm appliances before you bring one. (City of El Paso Environmental Services: Citizen Collection Stations)
Federal refrigerant rule
- The final disposer of an appliance is responsible for making sure any refrigerant in it is recovered. If someone else recovered it first, EPA requires a signed statement with that person's name and address and the date of recovery. EPA says no sticker is required for disposal. (U.S. EPA: Appliance Disposal (Section 608))
Before you haul it
- Empty fridges and freezers completely.
- Check whether the program wants fridge or freezer doors removed, taped shut or left on. Rules differ by city; some reject taped doors.
- Unplug the appliance. On a gas range or dryer, have the gas line shut off and capped by a qualified person before moving it.
- Call ahead: fees and rules change, and the official pages are the final word.
